Landmark ruling for employers seeking to roster staff on public holidays | Channel 9 News Perth

A landmark court ruling will force companies to ask staff to work, before automatically rostering them on public holidays. The implications will be far reaching for businesses with 24/7 operations such as mining, hospitals, hospitality and aged care. Employers will no longer be able to rely on rosters and contractual provisions around public holiday work. The arrangements for public holiday work will need to be changed or employers may face civil penalties.

On Thursday, 30 March 2023, Pragma Lawyers Director and specialist employment lawyer Elizabeth McLean was invited to speak with Monika Kos on Channel 9 News Perth and answer questions about the legal ramifications for workers and employers.
